SONSHIP STORIES:

SHERMAN BRADLEY

CINCINNATI, OHIO

“Like most men, I attempt to do too much. And when I was invited to attend a Canyon Pathways retreat, I had a sense it was an opportunity to be refreshed and to rethink what I do, how I do it, why I do it, and whether or not it's lining up with God's desires for me.”

“Rest is central to these experiences, and at first I minimized it. I don’t like to rest. But between the first retreat and the second retreat I attended, I suffered shingles, a stress-induced condition, and God said to me, I need you to listen this time: rest.”

“Nowhere else can I do that because of all the other hats I have to wear and all of the other expectations I have on me. Canyon Pathways has offered me an opportunity to consciously think through what this sonship is, and how we come to rest in it because if I can't rest in that, I'm not going to rest in anything else.”

“Today, my sonship journey is about communicating with God as a father. I want to sit at his feet. I want to look up into his face. I want to climb up in his lap. I want to be able to cry in his arms when I'm frustrated. I want to be able to yell and scream when I feel like it. I want to be able to look into his eyes. I want to be able to hear his small, still voice when he whispers. I want to be that close.”

“And having been a prodigal, I am also keenly aware of the grace that I have to possess this level of access. I'm trying to be more intentional about honoring that and utilizing that, making myself more available to a younger generation that is having the same struggles I had, so they will not have to wait till our age to learn what we are receiving now.”
